INNOVATION & RESEARCH
At IPFAG, We Champion Climate-Smart Poultry Practices!!!
CLIMATE-SMART FEED INNOVATIONS
Feed costs account for up to 70% of poultry production expenses. To reduce costs and dependence on imported feeds, we promote and test innovative feed alternatives, including:
- Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Maggots – a high-protein, locally produced insect feed.
- Duckweed Cultivation – a fast-growing aquatic plant rich in protein and minerals.
- Fodder Systems – sprouted grains and greens as a low-cost feed source.
These innovations help farmers reduce costs, improve bird health, and lower environmental impact.
BREED CONSERVATION AND RESEARCH
BREED CONSERVATION & GENETIC STUDIES
We work with partners to conserve and improve indigenous poultry breeds. Research is conducted to:
- Document the unique traits of local chicken, guinea fowl, and duck breeds.
- Develop strategies to increase productivity while retaining resilience traits.
- Promote indigenous breeds as a national asset for food security and biodiversity.
FARMER-LED RESEARCH
Our approach is participatory research: farmers test solutions on their farms, share results, and adapt practices based on real experiences. This ensures innovations are practical and scalable.
PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATION
WE COLLABORATE WITH:
- Universities and agricultural research centers.
- NGOs and development agencies focused on food security.
- Private sector innovators in feed and veterinary solutions.
- Through partnerships, we turn research into real benefits for farmers on the ground.
FUTURE FOCUS
Our goal is to establish a IPFAG Research and Innovation Hub, serving as a platform for piloting new technologies, documenting best practices, and training farmers in applied innovations.
